One address for everything: hello@utilbear.com. It goes to the person who builds the site. There is no support desk behind it, so a reply can take a few days.

What is worth writing about

What we cannot do

We never receive your text or your files: they are processed on your device and stay there. So we cannot recover a file, convert one for you, or look at what went wrong with a document you were working on. If a conversion failed, describe what happened and we will try to reproduce the failure. Please do not send us files that contain private or sensitive information.

What makes a report useful

The most useful message names three things: the page you were on, the values you entered, and what you expected instead of what you got. With those, a wrong result can usually be reproduced in a couple of minutes and fixed the same day. Without them, most of the reply is spent asking for them.

If the problem is visual rather than arithmetic, a page that overflows sideways or a control that will not respond to a tap, it helps to say which browser and which device, and roughly how wide the window was. Layout faults are often specific to one combination and invisible everywhere else.

Suggestions for new tools

These are welcome, and the ones that get built tend to have the same shape: a calculation you do often, that has a definite right answer, and that you currently do in a spreadsheet or across two other pages. Saying what you are actually trying to accomplish is more useful than naming a tool, because the job often turns out to be better served by something slightly different.

About the site

What UtilBear is, how the results are produced and who keeps it running is described on the about page. The privacy policy covers what is and is not recorded, which is the other question that arrives by email most often.
